I have now officially completed all of the eight questions I had to about Old Man and the Sea. I now get to blog about the things i liked and disliked about the book!
I have some interesting thoughts about what happened after the boy left the old man, Santiago(Hemingway 5). My first theory is that Santiago died. I think this because he had finally completed the thing he was working towards. He had caught the Marlin. He had finally ended the fishless streak. The 84 days were over with. He was also very old and frail. He was pushed to the limits when he was out in the Gulf for 3 whole days(Hemingway 3). I just think that his time was sort of over. It was up. He was old, he had lived a good long life, and I almost wanted him to die because then I know that this kind hearted old man ended his life at a high point. He had just finished doing what he loved. He also got to say goodbye to his dear friend, the young boy. He was at a final resting place in his life. That would be a nice ending after the ending to me. However, the other ending i invisioned is that the young boy could somehow prove that Santiago had caught the Marlin. I know that ending is a little far fetched, but it is a book, anything can happen :). Otherwise Santiago is just a old man who would remain as the legend of the eighteen foot marlin who had actually been caught and eaten by the sharks(Hemingway 5). I do know which ending i would like it to be. Honestly if i got to pick one i would pick that Santiago died. He was at a final resting place and that would just be a nice way for the book to end. However as readers of this novel, we will never know what happened to Santiago.
