I think that Sallinger, the author, took some time and thought to come up with the setting for The Catcher and the Rye. I think that the author picked a very good setting for the book. The Catcher and the Rye takes place in New York City, New York(Sallinger 21). New York City is known as the big apple and the city that never sleeps. It seems in this book that Holden and the action never sleeps. Holden is always doing something, both good and bad, and constantly going from one place to another. New York City is a place that I have never been too but would really like to visit one day. I wanted to visit even before I started reading the book, and after reading it I wanted to visit New York City even more! I just would really like always having something to do and having somewhere to go. In the book Holden always has that. There is seriously always something he can do or something going on. The big city atmosphere is just something I would really enjoy. New York City is a city where you do not know what you would encounter on that particular day. There is a lot of change in the city, just like there is a lot of change in Holden throughout the book. He gained new experiences and met some new people quite often. Something was constantly going on in his life. Just like the setting, New York City. I feel that Holden is gaining a lot of knowledge and experiences but is not making the best of what he could out of the experiences. Another plus in The Catcher in the Rye is that you go through everything with Holden. He is never in the same place, so as a reader you just move with him. It makes a reader feel like they are right there with the main character. It was exciting and a good way to write a book.
