Some of the similarities in our poems is that they are both based on new aspects on love. Your poem seems to show the more negative aspects, while mine shows more admiration and positive aspects of love. Some differences in our stories is that the male is still prominent in my story, but he references a girl a lot, where yours seems to be the girl is more in charge and giving the negative effects of the male. I think the female being in charge jumped out at me the most because even still today you don't always see that happening and so it gives a new perspective on things.
The thing that stood out most to me about your video was the fact that Modernism pieces don't usual follow normal sonnet formation, but yours did. Some similarities between our videos was the characteristic of Modernism going against the previous norms, but ours differentiated in that you pointed out the shift in power roles. My story didn't emphasize on power control, but that statement in relation to Modernism is true.
Some similarities in our poems is that they both are structured on the same ideas. Both of our poems go against the norm and deal with ideas that have never been expressed in previous writing periods. It also focuses on the mind more than art, history, and the past ideas. Oh Sweet Spontaneous brought ideas like science into play. Some differences is that my poem focuses on nature and the perceptions of the world, while yours is on the topic of love. The thing that stood out to me most was that the concept of the poem was love. It becomes very easy to be used to works being about nature after coming out of the Realism writing style.
Both of our writings look at a negative side of love. But, in my story it looks down on the women and not on the man but, that may be because mine is told in the point of view of a man. So our stories do share similar characteristics.
It seems like a lot of modernism poems focused on love. My poem was also primarily about love, so it is interesting to see how different modernist authors portrayed such a huge topic through their works. I think that you made a good point in showing that the sonnet does not follow traditional sonnet characteristics.
Our pieces were also similar in the aspect that they both focused on love. They both used imagery and metaphors to make a pretty dry story really interesting and have much more meaning. It was a good point that you made that the sonnet was not a traditional method of writing. This stood out to me because none of the other works I read about were sonnets.
The structure of this poem, or sonnet, would not strike the literary analyst as a Modernism work, but upon further and deeper analysis, it becomes obvious that it is a perfect example of Modernism writing. The themes of loss and despair are present in your poem, which are common themes in many Modernism works. My poem differed from yours, but both are great examples of the Modernism literary period. Just a helpful, friendly tip, you might want to get a new microphone because it seems as though yours is broken.
Our works were very similar because, like yours, my story was full of despair and pain which was caused and blamed on a man. One thing that I liked about your video was that you compared what would have happened had this been published in a different time period.
